Permaculture: An Awakening to Nature’s Gifts

To be fully present in nature learning how to make the most use out of our resources and connect with mother earth is everything my soul connects to, but to spend this time with others who are also awake to conscious purposeful living was powerful.

Permaculture is a topic I have been exploring for quite some time and was very excited to see East End Eden was hosting a workshop in Ojai. I had to attend and am so grateful I did. I am beyond happy that I was able to learn so much about permaculture from Connor and Sage, but also surprisingly received blessings from the community of people who also attended the workshop. To be fully present in nature learning how to make the most use out of our resources and connect with mother earth is everything my soul connects to, but to spend this time with others who are also awake to conscious purposeful living was powerful. So what is permaculture?

Permaculture is a lens of perception.

Twelve Principles of Design:

1. Observe & Interact – Symbiosis.

2. Energy – Catch & Store

3. Obtain a Yield

4. Apply Self Regulation & Accept Feedback

5. Use & Value Renewable Resources & Services

6. Produce No Waste

7. Design from Patterns to Details

8. Integrate Rather than Segregate

9. Use Small Slow Solutions

10. Use & Value Diversity

11.Use Edges & Value the Marginal

12. Creative Use & Respond to Change

My strongest connection to the principles of permaculture is Creative Use and Respond to Change. Observe, Observe, Observe and Change accordingly. This is something that if applied to your daily life will allow you to constantly evolve and grow as a person. In any design whether it is your land, your home or your life story; you can apply this principle. Ask yourself to see what it could be?

The weekend of community effort and story sharing was incredible to see and hear. Each person’s journey and story was something to observe and learn from. Each person on a different phase of their permaculture knowledge, but all awake to the idea that living in harmony with nature was the key to happiness and saving our planet. Connor was bursting with knowledge and I loved hearing his enthusiasm to teaching what he has learned with each laugh he made as he shared. Hearing from others in Ojai about his extreme progress over the past 4 years and his love for permaculture was really quite exciting. He isn’t afraid to try new ideas, observe and change accordingly. He has a strong connection to his work and it radiates through him. Thank you Connor.

I challenge you to think about how you can personally work with nature instead of against it?

How can you observe first and manage your time better or integrate overlaps in your day to save yourself energy and time?

I would love to hear all of your answers so please feel free to comment or email me directly at jessica@curedesigns.com where I will respond and share with everyone.
