One of my recent projects, Sandtorini, was all about transforming a charming short-term rental in Yucca Valley, California, into a romantic desert retreat. With a budget of $10,000, I worked closely with the client to enhance the property while maintaining its natural, native charm.
What I Did
- Hot Tub Installation: I managed the installation of a refurbished hot tub, ensuring all new electrical work was up to code and securing the necessary permits.
- Fire Pit Zone: Designed and created a cozy fire pit area positioned to capture stunning sunset views, with pavers for easy access.
- Daybed for Two: Added a comfortable daybed, perfect for couples to snuggle under the starry desert sky.
- Landscape Cleanup: I kept the landscape as natural as possible, using dead branches and rocks from the property to create unique borders that complemented the native plants.
- Curb Appeal Refresh: Focused on small yet impactful updates to make the property more inviting.
- Thoughtful Details:
- Installed towel hooks for convenience.
- Provided cozy blankets and towels for added comfort.
- Added an ice bucket to elevate the romantic experience.

The Outcome
This project was a great example of how to maximize a limited budget while creating a big impact. By working with the propertyā€™s existing features and incorporating thoughtful touches, I turned Sandtorini into a memorable retreat thatā€™s perfect for couples. The updates not only enhanced the guest experience but also boosted the propertyā€™s short-term rental bookings.
